The Technology of Treasure Hunting
How do I get started and how far can I go...?
Technology is as it implies - "technical". Any form of technology, no matter how simple, requires knowing how and when to use it. Some technologies associated with treasure hunting are as simple (and debatable) as a dousing or divining rods, while others require years of knowledge to properly use.
Technology such as dousing (divining) rods are subject to a great deal of skepticism and associated with "witching" or some other phenomena. There is a great deal of controversy on how and why they might work. Many people, however, have claimed to be very successful with them. We have yet to meet a "rich" person who uses one however. On the other hand, I have used them for finding pipelines with unbelievable accuracy...why it works - I have no idea...nor have I been able to find an acceptable scientific explaination for it.
The most common is the conventional "metal detector". Most "first time" users never take the time to learn the proper use of them. They never learn why and how they work. Therefore, they fail to get the most from their purchase and efforts.
Your first metal detector should be a very cheap basic unit. They can be purchased at most electronic and super stores. Research what makes them work and why they work before you buy. When and if you get comfortable with the use of metal detectors, upgrade to a higher level unit to suit your applications. The are many to choose from and many manufactures make strong claims as to their products. It is very simple to research them on the internet.

There are very many applicable technologies to treasure hunting. They can range from basics all the way up to very sophisticated and high level electronics that require maintenance crews and support teams.
See Sample under "Remote Sensing" of Caballo Mountains.
Some are capable of "real time" information, while others require data processing after the fact.
The highly sophisticated technologies are usually used primarily for other business ventures as primary support and are applied to treasure hunting as specific demands arise.

Treasure Hunting Caballo Mountains, NM
In this video we show some of the difficulties associated with treasure hunting.
Many of the caves and mines were not visible from the ground due to coincidence and/or design.
Even with specific information, the locations can be extremely difficult to get to.
Having the correct information to save both time and costs sometimes requires taking additional steps such as aerial video that provides logistical information to learn where a target is and how to get there.
